Fox News’ War on Obama

2009 October 23

Bill O’Reily says it right in the middle, the whole purpose and strategy, “damage the president” of the United States. Fox News hates America. Conservatives hate America. They hate America for electing Obama. They hate the president of the United States. They hate.

Where did the love of Christ go? These very same people have also constantly called themselves defenders of Christianity. Where is the love of Christ? Particularly Beck, a Mormon. Where is the love, Mr. Beck?

James Fallows notes how similar Fox News is to China’s state run TV.

Your reasoning (or lack thereof) is so abrasive. Do you find yourself offending people a lot?

I don’t agree with conservatives on all issues, but they generally don’t hate America. I don’t agree with liberals on all issues, but they don’t generally hate America. Can we not respectfully disagree on the issues? Does it really have to turn into accusations of hate? You’re turning the argument to be based only on emotion–totally removing any logic or reasoning. Do you really feel that this is the only way you can win?

    Edward,

I’m playing the same game conservatives played during the past eight years. Dare question president Bush and you hate America. Can you not see that this is how it was for eight years?

Do I really think conservatives hate America? I think they hate a part of America, the part that do not see as an aspect of their “imagined community.” For them, their America is one where their ideology rules the country. They see liberals and liberalism as a threat to their identity, as such they hate liberalism. When a conservative president is in power, they demand loyalty and submission to him, calling anyone who speak out against the president as “hating America.” Now that they are in the minority, they rail against the president. I can’t stand that kind of hypocrisy. Where is the respect they demanded of liberals toward the president? It’s only there when their guy is in power.

You’re turning the argument to be based only on emotion–totally removing any logic or reasoning. Do you really feel that this is the only way you can win?

Ask conservatives this, Edward. I am merely playing their game.

Ah, right I see. Stooping to the level of your opponent. Picking what is worst about your them and emulating it. Great ‘game’ plan Daniel.

This political backstabbing has been going on since the beginning of time. You act as though this is something new. Yes, there were conservative factions that said that liberals hated America basically because they opposed Bush. And now there are liberal factions doing the same concerning Obama. You really feel good about just playing this game? Do you really think it is the best way to effect change in the system? Do you generally feel that you are successful in arguing your point with conservatives?

    Edward,

This is a frequent comment made. Funny but I never hear this kind of comment being made toward the Glenn Becks of the world. Why don’t you tell them, Edward, that they ought to be nice? Why do you tell the liberal? Is it just a given that conservatives are never nice? And that it is uncharacteristic for a liberal to play mean?

So what, you’ll only do the right thing when Glenn Beck does? Why don’t I tell conservatives that they ought to be nice? How do you know that I don’t?

Is it uncharacteristic for a liberal to play mean? Progressive thought is on a higher plane than conservatism in my opinion. That doesn’t mean that every liberal is always right, in fact they have a tenancy to twist the truth. However I think that generally their thinking is more advanced. So yes, I do expect more of liberals. I expect honest intellectual debates, not this intellectually dishonest emotional pandering. I expect an acknowledgment that most conservatives, as wrong as they are, actually think that they are right and really want what is best for this country just like the rest of us. To quote you, “Where is the love?”

The point I do believe is to convince them that there are better solutions and a more proper way to govern. I personally believe that people are much more easily persuaded by presenting the truth in a logical way than by using emotional based attacks that are likely to quickly raise their guard and turn them off to anything further you might say.

    Edward,

I personally believe that people are much more easily persuaded by presenting the truth in a logical way than by using emotional based attacks that are likely to quickly raise their guard and turn them off to anything further you might say.

This is not evidenced in reality. Take for example the fact that Fox News is the number one news channel in the business with all their emotional based attacks.

For me, I’ve played nice long enough to know it gets you burned in politics. It would be better for you to go spend time convincing conservatives to put up better individuals to represent them than to convince me to be nicer to conservatives.

let me clarify, I will be nice to conservatives when they are nice. As is fairly clear in numerous debates with those who are respectful.

no one cares? Then why are you commenting on my blog?

Agreed. It IS a silly game and I too think you’re only playing it with yourself.

So why am I commenting on your blog? Good question. And you’re right. I don’t see any good reason why. So I won’t comment any more. And I won’t read your blog anymore. I wish you luck and a better thought out battle strategy.
    Toodles.
