War in Iraq Worsens Terror Threat Part II

So Bush has declassified a section of the NIE (National Intelligence Estimate) prepared back in April 2006 that was leaked to the press a few days ago. And if you look at it ( here in PDF ), or the analysis found here on the Washington Post, you’ll find that indeed their claim is accurate. The War in Iraq worsens the terror threat to America….

The Bush administration today released excerpts of a leaked U.S. intelligence report that concludes the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq has fueled Islamic extremism and contributed to the spread of terrorist cells. It also finds that terrorist groups around the world are adapting to counter-terrorism strategies.

“We assess that the Iraq jihad is shaping a new generation of terrorist leaders and operatives,” said a four-page summary of the 30-page National Intelligence Estimate, which was completed in April and leaked to several news media organizations last weekend.

So what do you know, we who were against the War in Iraq were right all along. Iraq was a distraction from the real war, and has turned into the rallying cry for jihadists, rather than building a stable, flourishing democracy, as Bush has claimed it would do.

I believe it is definitely time for a new strategy. Bush’s policy in Iraq is a failure. A broad consensus of the intelligence community agrees that our policies in Iraq fuel terror rather than snuff terror. Do we continue pouring oil (no pun intended) on a fire, or do we start pouring water on the fire?
