Nice! At last, some real action. Good work Democrats!

A group of Senate Democrats called Wednesday for a special counsel to investigate whether Attorney General Alberto Gonzales perjured himself regarding the firings of U.S. attorneys and administration dissent over President Bush’s domestic surveillance program.

“We ask that you immediately appoint an independent special counsel from outside the Department of Justice to determine whether Attorney General Gonzales may have misled Congress or perjured himself in testimony before Congress,” four Democratic senators wrote in a letter Wednesday, according to a draft obtained by The Associated Press.

“It has become apparent that the Attorney General has provided at a minimum half-truths and misleading statements” to the Judiciary Committee, they added.

And here’s a great video of Jon Stewart getting past all the b.s. to what it is really about:

  1. So the Dems admit that this isn’t about lying, its about spin (half-truths and misleading statements). This is clearly another attempt at political assassination. I think the Dems need to stop wasting our and their time. Yet another baseless investigation like Valerie Plame.

  2. Broz,

Is it at all possible that in fact the White House is actually hiding something nefarious?

  3. Why are you so convinced the elected leaders of this country are nefarious. This is the bias that I just don’t get. This is the paranoid attitude that inspires all these baseless investigations. Bush has got to be lying, so lets investigate every little thing and we are sure to find something.

I admit, Republicans are guilty of playing political assassination to. However, I think all these constant investigations need to end. I don’t mind investigating when there is a clear indication such as Katrina or why the Clinton-nuddered CIA got it wrong with regard to WMD’s.

  4. Broz,

Because there is just way too much evidence that they are nefarious. There must be accountability for political leaders or the whole system continues to degrade. If future politicians see that the current ones were able to get away with what they are getting away, those future politicians will press just a little more and get away with more. At what point would we have lost that which we stood for, Broz? If we are a nation that believes in the rule of law, not the rule of raw power, then there must be accountability.
