The Stupidity of Conservatives – Sarah Palin Edition

July 7, 2009 at 10:59 am | Posted in American politics | 2 Comments

Yes, the woman millions of Americans would love to see as president:

But as for whether another pursuit of national office, as she did less than a year ago when she joined Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the race for the White House, would result in the same political blood sport, Palin said there is a difference between the White House and what she has experienced in Alaska. If she were in the White House, she said, the “department of law” would protect her from baseless ethical allegations.”I think on a national level, your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we’ve been charged with and automatically throw them out,” she said. There is no “Department of Law” at the White House.

Department of Law? “protect” from baseless accusations? “automatically throw them out?” Can you say “DICTATOR!”

  1. Re: Chinese no-first strike policy

That’s only their declared policy; it isn’t like the leadership is democratically accountable. It looks like China has very few nukes in protected sites, therefore its force is oriented towards first use.

Even if Chinese leaders have embraced no first use, the best rubbishing of that comes from the Russians, who are petrified of them. As one Communist leader put it in the 70s, even if the Russians kill 90% of the Chinese population, that still leaves over a hundred million Chinese seeking revenge upon the same number of Russians.

Thus, China’s no first use policy can have little application to Israel.

Re: 1940s Israel: “Please, dude, Israel is no white knight in this. Neither of course are the Palestinians”

Such ignorance and attitude denigrates both the actions of Israel in the 40s and the Palestinian Arabs who seek a better future for themselves and their children – something very difficult in the hole you’ve assigned them to.

Take it from this child of Holocaust survivors: Obama got it wrong. Israel’s establishment wasn’t justified by the Holocaust, that was the equivalent of shutting the barn after the animals escaped. Rather, it was justified by the formation of nation-states out of the collapse of three empires after WWI, just like the formation of Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Iraq, etc. The middle east was not and is not all Arab, and establishing separate states was and is necessary for the protection of those who would otherwise be labeled a minority, thus leading to ethnic conflict.

  2. hey Solomon,

    Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Have the Chinese given any indication that they choose not to follow their stated policy? Because I haven’t seen any indication to think otherwise.

    2. You note the relationship, icy as it is, between the Russians and the Chinese. This is the relationship, in particular, that I was discussing as one that the Israelis and the Iranians should consider as their guide as to proceed forward. The Russians and the Chinese both don’t like each other all that much, but they tend not to press each others’ buttons, because doing so is destabilizing when you don’t need destabilization. The Chinese in particular have learned the power of economic might. Rattling sabers with the Russians undermines their economic prowess.

    3. Israel in the 40s… dude do you even know what I’m talking about? Take this incident, for example. Israel used terrorism to create their state, because those were the only weapons they had at the time. It’s not ignorance to state this. It is ignorance to not know of this.

    4. The attempts by Western powers to “establish states” in the Middle East is the ultimate root of the problems we are dealing with today.
