Barack Obama Should Decline the Nobel Peace Prize

So everyone is shocked by this morning’s announcement that the Nobel committee is awarding their Nobel Prize for Peace to Barack Obama for this and that. The thing is that there is not much to the this and that. Obama hasn’t had much of a chance yet to accomplish the desires of his heart. The Nobel committee is getting ahead of itself, and they should not do this. See, they think they can direct policy around the world through their award. I think Barack Obama should decline the award. I think he needs to essentially let this committee know that they cannot use him for their purposes, which is clearly the case here. It diminishes the importance of the Nobel Prize for Peace to give this award to Obama before he really has had any opportunity to accomplish peace.

I think the award should be given to Obama only after he does one or more of the following: removes troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, and makes peace with Iran, and gets Israel and Palestine to talk more and maybe even agree to two or three more things. That’s when the award makes sense. Right now, it is a mockery to the Prize for Peace to give it now. Obama should decline.
