Taliban Resurgence in Northern Afghanistan

Has anyone asked how exactly can a band of about 10,000 fighters put the most powerful nation on the planet in such a bind as the Taliban has done to the United States?

  1. Much like other groups, the Taliban has become the heart of resistance to central government corruption and abuse. As long as they have drug money and desire they will be able to project force. Pretty straightforward, actually.

  2. And if we’re looking like continually propping up government corruption and abuse… we lose Afghanistan completely.

  3. A couple of things —

    1. Desire for religious freedom.
    2. Desire for self-rule.
    3. Distant and rugged terrain.

It has been done before — I think it was called the American Revolution.
