End the Death Penalty

August 11, 2010 at 8:08 am | Posted in American politics | Leave a comment

More and more stories like this keep popping up. As long as the defendant is not able to be given proper counsel in order to defend himself or herself, the ending punishment ought never to be the death penalty. End it now.

Glenn Beck is a Lunatic

This man is insane. And he will influence someone on the right to commit murder and terrorism with this kind of language. He is comparing Obama to Caesar, with all the implications of what to do with a Caesar.

Charles Krauthammer Shows How Easy It Is To Lie About Ronald Reagan

July 16, 2010 at 7:01 am | Posted in American politics | Leave a comment

See, it isn’t that hard

Just as President Ronald Reagan cut taxes to starve the federal government and prevent massive growth in spending, Obama’s wild spending — and quarantining health-care costs from providing possible relief — will necessitate huge tax increases.

See how easy it is? Ronald Reagan cut taxes to starve the federal government and prevent massive growth in spending. If only I could lie that easily. Now, if we follow Krauthammer’s silly stupid logic, that means that Ronald Reagan should have RAISED taxes in order to account for the massive increase in spending that Reagan did. That means that George Bush needed to RAISE taxes in order to pay for the massive increases in spending that Bush did. Funny how Krauthammer never holds his dear boys to the same standard he holds Obama.

Make Israel Sign the Non-Nuclear Proliferation Treaty

July 3, 2010 at 5:15 pm | Posted in American politics | 11 Comments

This is a good step in the right direction. Demand Israel be a part of the rest of the community and have its nuclear weapons declared.

The biggest worry is that Israel, with its allies in America, will undermine the Obama presidency, maybe even actively work to remove it from power here in America. After all, the status of its nuclear weapons is of vital security to Israel. Will it allow an American president to dictate or force its hands on the matter, or will they, with their allies in America, destroy the American presidency? After all, America must adhere to whatever Israel says, no matter how much it undermines America’s security. And it needs to be absolutely clear: Israel’s nuclear ambiguity is a threat to American interests and military in the Middle East. No realist ought to be kidding himself or herself about this point. The question then is, will America regain its independence once more from its new master?

Not really a surprise. He thought he could get away with it, but sadly, facts are stubborn things.

The Gaza Blockade is Failing and Will Soon End

June 5, 2010 at 3:53 pm | Posted in American politics | 5 Comments

That was the unmistakable feel from reading this article about the Rachel Corrie vessel. Whether or not Israel stopped the boat or any future boats, does not matter anymore. Israel cannot stop the supplies from going to Gaza anymore. They’ll simply assist the protesters by unloading the vessel for them, and then transporting the material to Gaza themselves. The blockade has failed.

This Will Come Back to Bite Us in the Ass

Obama has approved targeting a Muslim cleric.

The Obama administration has taken the extraordinary step of authorizing the targeted killing of an American citizen, the radical Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who is believed to have shifted from encouraging attacks on the United States to directly participating in them, intelligence and counterterrorism officials said Tuesday.

ah, endless war. We still haven’t gotten the previous bad guy, you know, the one who ordered his henchmen to use planes for missiles, ending up killing nearly 3000 Americans. He’s still out and about. Way to give a boost to al-Awlaki’s standing among his peers. Way to make him more than he is.

What The Tea Party Insurgency Means For The 2010 Elections

March 26, 2010 at 8:16 am | Posted in American politics | 1 Comment

As Fox News continues to fuel disinformation to millions of American voters, those voters turn their fire against their own representatives. Bob Bennett for example, from Utah could possibly not even make it into the Republican primaries. That’s how much anger there is from his right over his TARP vote. This ideological purity test that tea party conservatives make will eventually destroy them or destroy America, depending on how successful they, and their patron on the television, Fox News, are at disinforming the rest of America. This disinformed anger is really to try and target Democrats, but because the rhetoric is so unhinged and out of mainstream thought, what happens is that it breaks the vote of the conservative, pushing more votes toward the Democratic party. This is what happened in NY 23. Doug Hoffman, trying to ride the tea party wave, was rude to the Republican who he attacked from the right. Because of that rudeness, she endorsed the Democratic candidate, Bill Owens. Her voters were then split between those who endorsed Owens and those who preferred the ruder Hoffman. Bill Owens won an otherwise completely safe Republican seat.

These tea party activists have no answer for NY 23 except to double down in their disinformed anger. They blamed ACORN for the loss in NY 23 (even though ACORN had nothing to do with anything there). But again, based on misinformation, ACORN is just simply a strawman enemy to them. Come the fall elections this year, if tea party activists were to go with the same strategy as in NY 23, then Republicans will probably lose every single seat they are challenging. These tea party activists think they are representing all Americans. They are not, of course. But that perverted thought fuels their belief that they are on the right course, and that ideological purity is required of all candidates. They will constantly be shocked and angered even more when they lose again and again and again and again, except of course in Utah. It doesn’t matter if Bob Bennett wins or loses, Utah will continue to be represented by conservatives.

That’s the thing though, Utah’s seat is not held by a Democrat, so in the grand scheme of things, it matters not if it is Bob Bennett or some idiot schmoe tea partier. A similar tea partier will never win the Connecticut seat held currently by Chris Dodd. Because for the large majority of Americans, the tea party movement is an insult to their intelligence, much as Doug Hoffman was an insult to the majority voters of NY 23 (even though it is a very conservative district!). Just look at North Dakota. Senator Dorgan is retiring (a Democrat). North Dakota is generally a conservative state. The consensus is that John Hoeven, the current governor, a Republican, will easily win the election and become the next Senator. He’s not a tea partier. He’s solidly conservative, but has, like Bob Bennett, done somethings that would be labeled moderate or even liberal by the likes of the tea partiers. Yet what will happen is that Hoeven will win with or without the tea party vote. Most tea party members will vote for him, because ideological purity aside, they are still Republicans and it will take more than George W Bush to break up that marriage (the real reason, I believe, for the insurgence of the tea party has nothing to do with Obama and the Democrats, but with George W Bush and his terrible financial record). What are tea partiers going to do with Boozman, the Republican candidate against Blanche Lincoln in Arkansas? They don’t like that he voted for TARP and are challenging his Congressional seat. Will they vote for him in the general election against Lincoln?

The ideological purity test of the tea party movement will never bring them to power, except if they resort to violence (along the lines of the Nazi party or any other party that pushes ideological purity). Because they demand ideological purity, they immediately dismiss anyone who isn’t ideologically pure, and those who are not ideologically pure immediately dismiss the tea party candidate. Thus you get votes shifted toward the candidate you hate the most: the liberal one. So, for example, if a tea party candidate were to run against Boozman in Arkansas as a third party candidate, he will siphon off voters from Boozman, pushing voters toward Lincoln, and giving the election to Lincoln when Boozman would otherwise have been the victor.

This is a very common occurrence. Just look at Ross Perot, splitting off the George H W Bush voters and giving the election to Bill Clinton. Theodore Roosevelt split the Republican/conservative vote in the 1912 election, giving Woodrow Wilson the victory.

As a Democrat, I welcome the tea party’s attacks on Republicans like Bob Bennett. Anything that gives Democrats more seats is not a bad thing in the current environment. As I want the Republican party destroyed for what they did from 2001-2006, this is a good thing. However, the thing that looks to replace the Republican party is even uglier, more dangerous and destructive to America, and frankly, I prefer that the Republicans win over a tea party idiot any day of the week.

As for this November, I believe Democrats will hold on to their majority in both the House and the Senate. I believe tea party activists will think that Democrats losing some seats will be due to their actions and thus they will be emboldened. Who knows what it will take to quench that anger. Not even gaining power will stop their anger. If they ever get to power, they will mightily abuse it and destroy America. Because they are not riding on positive principles. They are riding on negative principles. They are riding on beating the other guy, on destruction. You cannot govern under such principles. When in power, they will use that power to further attack their political opponents with every dirty trick they know. Their anger will not end simply because they are in power, because their opponents still exist and with the likelihood of their political opponents winning future elections being quite probable, these tea party activists will do everything they can to ensure that will not happen, even undermine democracy.

States Rights

ah, the loophole of all loopholes rears its ugly head again. Because conservatives hate liberals and liberals’ push to help Americans by reforming health care, they’ve decided to be “tenthers” and claim states don’t have to obey federal laws and regulations.

Fair enough.

Now, stop receiving money from the federal government. You don’t like the federal government? Fine. Stop getting their money. Stand on your own. Watch how many states stop this stupidity.
