Why Are Republicans So Stupid?

Michelle Bachman is the latest.

Take a look at what she said on the House floor:

“We were led to believe that we would see great change, immediate change, and all we’re seeing is a prolonged effort, because just what happened in the 1930s with FDR.

“The more the government spent, the more the government regulated, the more the government put up tariff barriers — trade barriers — the more government intervened, the longer the recession occurred. And as a matter of fact, the recession that FDR had to deal with wasn’t as bad as the recession Coolidge had to deal with in the early ’20s. Yet, the prescription that Coolidge put on that, from history, is lower taxes, lower regulatory burden, and we saw the roaring ’20s where we saw markets and growth in the economy like we never seen before in the history of the country.

“FDR applied just the opposite formula — the Hoot-Smalley Act, which was a tremendous burden on tariff restrictions, and then, of course, trade barriers and the regulatory burden and tax barriers. That’s what we saw happen under FDR. That took a recession and blew it into a full-scale depression. The American people suffered for almost 10 years under that kind of thinking.”

Hoot-Smalley Act? Was there a Senator who’s last name was Hoot? Senator Hoot! That’s a real hoot!

Seriously, why are Republicans so stupid? Not only does she get the name wrong (it is Smoot-Hawley), but the Smoot Hawley Act was not passed under FDR, but rather under Hoover, signed by Hoover! That would be a Republican. So let’s really put her argument in with the right people:

“[Hoover] applied just the opposite formula — the [Smoot-Hawley Act], which was a tremendous burden on tariff restrictions, and then, of course, trade barriers and the regulatory burden and tax barriers. That’s what we saw happen under [Hoover]. That took a recession and blew it into a full-scale depression. The American people suffered for almost 10 years under that kind of thinking.”

When you put the right players in place, she actually makes sense! But she is so stupid and does not realize she makes the Democrats’ point that it was Republicans who fucked up. The Bachmans of the world are fighting against FDR today because they can’t fight against Obama. It no longer works to fight against Clinton. Carter is a has been, who has been beaten up enough. Johnson, for some odd reason they don’t pick on. JFK is golden territory, never attack him. Truman, well, they like his foreign policy, so they can’t attack him. That leaves FDR. It is really pathetic what the Republican party has come to. Though, from researching history, they’ve rarely had good moments.

  1. It’s not just that Republicans are stupid, it’s that they’re evil too that is the key. If Republicans were only stupid, I could have some sympathy for them, much like the sympathy I would have for a retarded child, or perhaps someone who had their brain damaged in a car accident. However, the evil of the Republicans deserves only contempt. There was a professor (I don’t recall the name) who suggested a new compound adjective is needed to describe Republicans: stupid-evil.

  2. I just wish conservatives would pay attention to the things they say. Glenn Beck, that’s all I’ve got to say.

(I would make a comment about the specific post but I do not feel like fact checking lol)

  3. “When you put the right players in place, she actually makes sense! But she is so stupid and does not realize she makes the Democrats’ point that it was Republicans who fucked up.”

You judge too easily. You should put it into perspective. The Smoot-Hawley tax would have been passed no matter what; it was inevitable. Both, Democrats and Republicans (actually more Democrats than Republicans) were adamant about the bill being passed. If Hoover vetoed it, then there was a strong possibility of the veto being overturned with the 2/3 of House and Senate vote. This would only be detrimental to Hoover since it would decrease his already-faltering popularity. His other option was to “pass-the-buck,” in which FDR would have passed the bill anyways. Get off your Democrat-high-horse shit. The Smoot-Hawley Tax was not a matter of Democrat-Republican rivalry but an overall national failure.

If you want to play the blame game, then it is clearly the Democrats at fault. The Democrats were the ones that abolished the functioning national bank. If this bank existed at the eve of the Crash, then the economy would have naturally recuperated. Yet, Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, established the Federal Reserve. It was the Federal Reserve’s irresponsibility that led to the Great Depression. This is not an opinion, but a fact shared by top economists including the incumbent chairman of the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke.

  4. Of course a Republican would say something like this in a forum about why Republicans are so stupid.

“If you want to play the blame game, then it’s clearly the Democrats at fault.”

Lol…I would laugh at the sheer niavety of such a comment if the person who made it wasn’t allowed to vote. Since they can vote I can’t laugh and only find it very scary that such people exist in our country. Clueless hypocrites who immediately blame anyone but their “great” leaders. Even when those leaders are directly responsible for our problems.

  5. Ok wait, I just have to ask, why is everybody making such a big deal over this when our current President, Barack Obama, can say things like” Marine Corpse” and “I have been to all 57 states” and stuff like that and everyone just thinks he is the greatest President ever. So how is he going to fix our problems when he can’t even talk right? Answer that.

    • In our opinion we disagree personally we think u should give Obama time/ a chance to fix the problems/ debt/ garbage hole that bush put us through and u r talkin about Obama spending all the money when he didn’t have the money to spend because of bush. Think & answer that.

  6. American;
R-e-a-lly, you’re going there? After eight years of a clown (President Bush, in case a stupid Republican might misunderstand to whom I am referring) who couldn’t speak at all without a wire and even with one he was unable to follow what was being fed to him over the wire well enough to get through a single a speech or news conference without a major faux pax. R-e-a-lly?

  7. Why on earth would you ever even expect consistency from political parties. I mean, an individual is hardly consistent over time. If any of us traveled back in time ten years and got in a conversation with ourself, we’d probably find something to argue about.

And yet you are expecting political parties, made of millions of ever changing individals) of hypocracy. Hypocracy, I understand it, means saying one thing and doing something else. Why would you expect anything different?

  8. um, dude, it’s hypocrisy. 🙂

Actually I have a notebook from my senior year in high school, and when I look back at it, I’ve been fairly consistent since then in my views. I had a wee bit of a rebellious period when I lived in Utah (but really, who wouldn’t rebel against that silly culture…), but otherwise my views have been quite consistent in the last 20 years.

And yes, I expect some level of consistency from political parties, otherwise, why have them?

  9. That is very biased. You say that Republicans are hateful, evil stupid bastards, that enforce there beliefs on to others. But not all republicans are this way. Just as any party there are bad seeds in there crops. When a Republicans says something or does something everyone is on there case, calling them racist or ignorant. The Republican party will disown there fellow member for disfiguring the idea the were trying to describe. While the democrats do not they just shrug and ignore. Republicans are for capitalism, democracy, and Christianity. The following things are what created the foundation of America. The opposing side disowns the,. Mind that not every person in the party is such. So you should not call a party stupid for saying such things makes you immature.
